  1. hey, if those peeps are angry and crazy looking, it's because they either (1) want to join the sweat storm party or (2) don't like the idea of sweating and being naked in front of more than a thousand peeps hihihihihi

  23. The SONA. PGMA presented her projects and how they are currently taking effect. She showed us how her projects are helping the Filipinos, such as the irrigation projects, the nautical highways, NFA rice, etc. She also explained why the VAT is important (and she emphasized on this). There were also people who are living proofs of the success of her projects, such as the fisherman who used to earn only Php100 a day, and now earns Php1000 a day. Or the group of girls, Who through TESDA, were able to study, and eventually get a job. There were also the jeepney drivers who now earn Php500/day from the former Php200/day. That’s great, I thought. But then, do these people really represent the Filipino nation? wow naman sana paunlarin nia ang bansa wag na nia pahirapan...

well it's really a stopgap measure dark angel. few of us know that if the crisis gets worse, indonesia, malaysia, vietnam, cambodia first then philippines will surely go into rationing, so the solution is to buffer the effects of severe economic hardship. if that is not clear to you, only time can tell how far the present remedial actions of our government will measure up to the worsening global crisis. however, it won't be bad to pray, if there's someone to pray to... and it won't be as bad to do our share. we are a strong nation and powerful people. if our countrymen went berserk abroad, how many u.s. presidents will die? how many rich people in europe will disappear? how many businesses will close down? it's just that we don't know how to love our country and do something good for it. i started this little blog after coming home from ny, usa. already, the national disaster coordinating council noticed that they have small inadequacies and little things that they could do something about. the department of transportation and communications is now listening to suggestions to start a national transport safety board. isn't that something? for a few weeks worth of sincere effort, somehow something good happens?

all the criticism in the world will amount to nothing unless we really really do something. good luck to you, more power to all of you!!! --- girbaudz

  25. The SONA of the President of Crises Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will be as usual, full of promises and empty rhetorics about progress bereft of the realities of poverty hammering the vast populace of the Filipino people including the urban poor. Time and time again promises made by the government didn’t come true and it is no secret this country (the Philippines) is known for its corrupt nature in the whole world. Will we believe a government that will seem to forever be just on the look out for themselves and filling their pockets with money from the populace? Are we forever to be in such predicament? Will there be no hope for the Filipinos to lead a better life especially for its masses?

i think that the SONA is just useless if the President will not change first her attitude and her administration, because the problem starts within ourselves, and the problem of the nation starts in all of this administration's officials themselves...

  36. hi. am a political science student and being one, i can't help but be aware of the proceedings that happen inside the government's premises. her SONA is good (a very generous term to use) but as usual, it lacks the solutions that can help alleviate the people's suffering. i mean, if she proposed one, that would be for formality only because that's what people want to hear. but personally, i don't think the mediate who's currently seated offers solution to the problems faced by the country. it seems that the worst had passed but she could not be unglued in her comfortable seat. well, we can still hope for divine intervention if that's the only way there is to sojourn her supremacy. listen to the people's plea. they all say the same thing.

  42. Hi Guyz,

It good to hear people are really paying attention to SONA (well at least you have time to even criticize it).

I should commend PGMA for the VAT. It is really needed. Given the fiscal deficits and the worsening global crisis, we really need VAT to institute social programs and to fund other projects hopefully targeted towards a sustainable economy. For one, VAT is also regressive as it really takes more from those who have most, not to mention that it somehow solves tax evasion. It is also investment-friendly which would later have positive impacts on the economic funadmentals (i.e. income growth, employment, etc.)

The problem is most of the "social" programs are indeed myopic in nature and does not take into account, sustainability and capacity building amongst players in the economy. Rather they cater to those that are politically appealling. Also, these programs will just eat up most of the VAT proceeds.

Good thing, there are some projects such as infrastructure and support to the agricultural sector that were reported in the SONA. At least there are some of these few good things. Notwithstanding, most of the support are still short-sighted and unsustainable unless funds wil come out regularly and elsewhere

It is really high time the the country undergo "real" reforms to initiate change. It may be painful in the short-term and there will be winners and losers. But the government should instill in its mind that the country has no time and no perfect audience to do these reforms. It is high time to surrender political appeals and do the right thing.

True, there are much to be done. Citizens should also play their part not through going to the streets and wishfully think that they could overrunn the government and initiate change. For one, some of them are just driven by false goals or even handled by "big men" in order to pursue their political careers. Filipinos should try to make every minute of their lives to be as productive as possible, and do away with politics.
